Nail Moment: Gel Manicure in Buff

8 Apr

My Vampire Is Buff OPI Gelcolor is my current color of the moment. A pretty very pale nude color with the long lasting staying power of a Gel Manicure! I’m always picking nude shades, but there are so many different nude shades out there, that I never run out of options. It might be a tad boring, but it’s always classic, natural, and pretty. I feel the most upscale and elegant with a more natural manicure. Sure, its nice to do a little nail art, or express yourself with nail color, but my favorite expression is beauty, and what better way to be beautiful than to tap into & enhance the natural beauty we are all created with?

I’m on day 3 of the manicure and it is still in perfect condition. No chips. My favorite part of a gel manicure is that my nails don’t break, like they do with regular polish. It reinforeces them with the strength that my fragile nails need.

I got my nails done at Nails By Design, on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. One of my favorite nail places, they charged me $65 for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. Which is a pretty good deal for both.  I never get gel on my toes because regular polish seems to stay on my toes for weeks, unlike my nails. I’m so rough on my nails too, buttoning and unbottoning clothes at photoshoots, typing, etc.

With my birthday coming up, I’ve been thinking about investing in one of the OPI LED Lights that the salon uses to cure Gel manicures. Apparently LED lights are faster and safer than the UV lights. Although, they are more expensive. I’m on the hunt to spend less by searching on the internet for a good deal. I think that doing it myself will actually save me a lot of money. Gel Manicures last so much longer on me, and are just as easy to apply and remove yourself as regular nail polish if you have the right techniques  (Click here to watch the VIDEO).  The LED Light pays for itself within a few months. I’m going to also try to use my friend’s discount to purchase the actual nail colors and base/topcoats at a PRO shop.

Nude & Gold Glitter French Manicure

Nail Art has been really popular this season. All different types of designs, color combinations glitter, and even rhinestones and studs. Nude versions have been my favorite, and I love sparkle so I’ve also been loving the glitter trend. These are also great for wedding manicure ideas.
I like to keep it natural looking, simple and classy when it comes to my nails, but I still want to participate in the nail art trend while it lasts. I never like the over the top looks, some of the nail art can look really tacky and cheesy, especially on me. Here is a recent nail polish application I rocked for the last few days. I got the perfect new subtle shimmer nude nail polish from  Sugar Naturel in Creme Brûlée. I added gold gold glitter sparkle tips with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in #120 Golden Rule (-my all time favorite polish!) I love using this sparkly gold glitter polish on my toenails. So glam and simple.

I also love the look of the rhinestones on nails, but haven’t tried that look yet. (Coming soon!)
Here are a few other nail designs that inspired this look that I came across on

How to Whiten Nails

14 Oct

I came across a post on a website about how to whiten your nails/toenails if they turn yellow from nail polish.  When I read about how to whiten your nails, I noticed the comments people had made below it saying that it didn’t work for them. The website recommended using all kinds of things, like lemon juice, whitening toothpaste, and even denture cleaner.  I thought about the way I always get them looking white and pretty again, which was different & much quicker than what was suggested. It inspired me to share this beauty secret you.

Prevention: Dark nail polish colors tend to do this to your nails, especially if you skip the base coat step. To prevent your nails from turning yellow, use a clear base coat underneath your nail color first. But, if you skip the base coat, don’t worry, there is an easy solution for removing the yellow from your nails.

Before & After

How to:

All you need is a FINE NAIL FILE. I like to use this one from Sally Hansen. I have it in all 3, fine, medium, and course. But for this beauty secret, you will only need the FINE NAIL FILE. Why the FINE one? For several reasons, it removes the yellow layer on the top of your nails and still keeps them smooth, and because it only files a little bit. A course file will make your nails ridged and remove too much of your natural nails.

So here’s how to do it, It’s really easy and only takes a minute. Literally just file off/buff the yellow top layer of your nail. That’s it. It also smooths the texture of the natural nail to give nail polish a smoother finish.

Buff off yellow on nail.

Before: Nails are yellow from nail polish.

After: Nails are clear again.

Instead of applying some weird mixture of peroxide and baking soda, or whitening toothpaste, try this instant solution by just buffing off the yellow with a FINE nail file.

After filing the yellow off, rinse your nails under water to clean them, or swipe a cotton ball with nail polish remover over them to clean them. Then apply cuticle oil or coconut oil to soften and moisturize them. This works well for toenails and finger nails.

Manicure Trend

3 May

Multi-Colored Nail Trend. I tried it, subtly!

I’ve noticed a nail trend lately where you paint eight nails the same color and the remaining two nails a contrasting color. So many celebrities like Beyoncé & Rihanna are rocking this daring style seems like a cute idea.

Vanessa Hudgens and Beyonce Multi Colored Nails

Even though I need to keep my nails a constant neutral/natural color for photoshoots, I thought this look would allow me to have some fun, and client’s wouldn’t even notice in the photos. I gave this look a go. The outcome was cuter than I had anticipated. My go-to manicure is always a French Manicure, classic, classy, and pretty. So for the different nail color, I chose to paint my ring finger on each hand with a silver tip. This matches my diamond rings (which you can see in a later post titled “Ring Bling”)  and it looks absolutely stunning. I used my favorite highly pigmented silver nail polish from Borghese in “Chroma.”

Above: I did it myself, adding silver polish only to 1 tip on each hand. Super easy and cute!

I love how a simple bottle of nail color can show off our personality and perk up your style whether it’s for a night out or every day at the office. This trend is subtle enough for even me, which makes me believe even you can pull this one off.

What do you think of this nail trend? Will you try it out or have you tried it already? Comment below to share your thoughts on this new style.

Gelcolor by OPI

OPI Gelcolor
At a local salon on Sunset Boulevard called “Nails by Design” I tried this nail service called Gelcolor by OPI. I got it done in a translucent white color first called “Funny Bunny.” Gel nail color is suposed to last longer than regular nail polish, mine lasted over a week, with not a single chip or broken nail! I have very thin nails that bend and break super easily. This product is AMAZING. I’m so happy with the results. I went back and got a different color called “princess” which is a light shimmery pink.
You need to get this done at a professional salon, and removing it seems tricky so I get it done at the salon also. I get 3 coats of the nail color, plus a base coat and top coat. Each coat gets exposed to uv light to dry, but they put fingerless gloves on your hands to prtect them from the UV rays. Another AMAZING plus to this great product is that it’s perfectly dry as soon as you are done wth the process. No need to worry about messing up your nails as soon as you leave the salon!

I’ve never been able to wear regular nail polish, it always chips off a few hours after completing my manicure. Gelcolor has finally made it possible for me to wear nail color that lasts!
And my nails are stronger and it keeps them from breaking, so now they are longer and so pretty!

A photo of my nails 8 days after manicure, as you can see, no chips:

mani after 8 days, no chips!

I’m going to get it redone again before my swimwear photoshoot in hawaii this weekend, I will try to take photos of the process and tell you more!

At my salon it costs $40.00 plus tip. Which is more than a regular manicure, but it’s worth every penny!

So, I went back to the nail salon, had them remove it, for a $5 charge and apply it fresh for my photoshoot in Hawaii:

Since I always need to keep my nails neutral and natural for shoots, I’ve always favored the classic French Manicure, so I asked them if they could give me a FM with the Gelcolor? To my suprise they said yes, and that it was very easy to do. I had it applied on Friday, and the photo below is from the following Wednesday (so 5 days later, and it still looks amazing!)

I’m super happy with this amazing new nail color invention! Plus, my natural nails are getting longer, with no breaks or polish chipping!
